Care England sounds alarm on nurse shortage
January 10, 2019
Provider representative body Care England has voiced concerns about the significant workforce pressures in the social care sector.
The organisation’s chief executive Professor Martin Green said Care England had appealed to the Migration Advisory Committee to continue to include Registered Nurses on the Shortage Occupation Lists.
“It is imperative that the newly created Nursing Associate role as well as direct care staff and Registered Managers are on the lists in order to stem the workforce shortages,” said Prof. Green.
Care England has responded to the consultation on the Shortage Occupation Lists Review 2018. It’s response highlights the significant workforce pressures including the growing reliance upon both EU and non EU nationals to fill vacancies. Providers find it hard to recruit and retain Registered Nurses working in social care settings and there are also shortages of care workers and Registered Managers.
