Investor Publishing Ltd, publisher of HealthInvestor UK, HealthInvestor Asia and EducationInvestor Global, has acquired the assets of Hawker Publications Ltd, owner of Caring Times, Nursery Management Today and the Journal of Dementia Care.
Founded in 1985 by Dr Richard Hawkins and Pat Petker, Hawker Publications has deep sector knowledge in UK social care and childcare and has been a leading voice in improving understanding of dementia and the care of people living with dementia.
In addition to its established periodicals, Hawker Publications also runs a number of landmark annual events, including the National Care Awards (now in its 21st year), the UK’s largest annual dementia event – the UK Dementia Congress – and the popular Nursery Management Today Agenda series.
Investor Publishing says combining the two businesses will create a media organisation responsible for more than 50 annual events, providing market intelligence and networking opportunities across the United Kingdom, Asia, the Middle East and the United States.
Dr Richard Hawkins, founder and editor-in-chief of Hawker Publications, will join Investor Publishing and continue to play an active role in the combined business.
“Dr Hawkins and Hawker Publications have an unrivalled reputation in the UK market and the joining of the two organisations represents an exciting new chapter for Investor Publishing,” said Investor Publishing managing director Vernon Baxter.
“This acquisition will bolster our UK activities and support our efforts to expand into new geographies. The education and health markets continue to see significant growth and we look forward to serving these sectors with high quality content and engaging and informative events.”
Dr Hawkins said Hawker Publications was delighted to be joining Investor Publishing, a highly respected publisher with a justifiably superb reputation.
“Together we will be able to provide an exciting and unmatched offering of events and electronic and print intelligence to our key communities in the social care, childcare, education and dementia care sectors,’’ he said.
Investor Publishing is part of the Nexus Group of companies, which includes Nexus Corporate Finance, Nexus Investment Ventures and acting as the external adviser to the FTSE 250 listed REIT Primary Health Properties PLC. Nexus Media Ventures, of which Investor Publishing is a subsidiary within the Nexus Group, will continue to seek opportunities for growth in education and health media.
Ciaran Morton, chief executive of Nexus Media Ventures, said: “Nexus Media Ventures is delighted to have acquired these publications. They add significantly to our existing health and education portfolios, cementing our strong position in the UK market whilst also supporting our ambition to expand our international presence in both sectors.”
