Chai Patel to retire
August 15, 2019
Dr Chai Patel is to retire as chairman of care home provider HC-One at the end of October.
A former medical practitioner, Dr Patel has been a social care provider-entrepreneur for more than 25 years. He turns 65 in September and plans to spend more time with his family.
Dr Patel will continue to be an active investor and substantial stakeholder in HC-One, having founded the company in 2011, serving as chairman throughout its history and also as its chief executive between March 2015 and September 2017.
“No challenge in my career was more daunting than the turnaround of Southern Cross and the creation of HC-One,’ said Dr Patel.
In 2011, care home operator Southern Cross was forced to transfer the ownership of its 752 care homes after it ran into financial problems.
“Southern Cross was a company in crisis with thousands of vulnerable elderly people at risk of losing their home, and thousands of jobs also on the line.
“I founded HC-One to deliver the kindest care in the UK and I am so proud of what we have achieved. Kind care depends on those who deliver it and I have been humbled by the dedication of my colleagues every day since HC-One began.”
HC-One plans to fill the role of chair with an experienced UK based non-executive chairman.
