The Boris promise

By Caring Times editor GEOFF HODGSON

I credit the new Prime Minister with good intentions when he says he wants to ‘fix social care once and for all’ – good intentions pave the road to Hell but then, the unelected leader of a minority government, hog-tied by the promise to bring Brexit about, come high water or the aforementioned Hell, probably has as good a chance as any of mustering cross-party support for significant social care reform.

I don’t doubt his sincerity but the likelihood of a supervening general election and the ‘all hands on deck’ requirement to come up with damage-control measures in the wake of a no-deal Brexit all go to make social care reform small potatoes by comparison.

So the broken system is going to have to limp along for some time yet, with those on the lower berms of the economic ziggurat suffering the most.
