The power of first impressions

There’s no denying first impressions count – especially when it comes to visiting a care home. Research* by P&G Professional found 43% of those looking for a care home would pay a premium for a clean and hygienic standard of living, indicating investing in the right cleaning products to achieve the best results can have serious business benefits.

When walking into a home, many notice how welcoming the environment is, and a key part of this is its cleanliness. P&G Professional research suggests a ‘just like home’ setting is important for 85% of those seeking a facility, with hygiene a key consideration. People would be more likely to recommend a care home if it had a lovely clean bedroom (39%), spotless bathroom (35%) or bedsheets laundered in detergent used by their relative (32%). Using safe, simple and effective products that are trusted by residents, such as Ariel Professional or Flash Professional, can help create a clean environment that feels comfortable and familiar.

One of the very first things people notice when entering a care home is its smell, and smell definitely creates an impression. It is universally believed care settings smell bad due to the nature of the sector, but this isn’t always the case. More often than not, care home owners are aware of this potential issue and will put measures in place to eradicate odours at their source. I always advise tackling an issue straight away – don’t try to disguise it. Eliminate at the root to get rid of unpleasant pongs.
